“On va à la plage les enfants? Ouiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!”

We found this mixed-media artwork in a small alleyway in Montpellier, in the South of France. Around the girl, butterflies scatter through the air, birds appear, a lotus flower rests near the ground, and small pasted details fill the scene with movement.

Nothing about it feels too polished. The yellow wall is weathered and marked by time, while the different painted and pasted elements seem to have found their way together almost naturally. Wings above, fins below, and a child in the middle trying to contain the excitement.

That is what makes it so charming. There is an innocence to the image, but never anything overly sweet about it. The fish seem to be rushing somewhere, the butterflies are going in every direction, and the girl looks as though she has just received the best news of the day.

It has the energy of a summer afternoon when everyone suddenly wants to go outside. The beach might still be a few streets away, but the excitement has clearly already arrived.

When translated into textiles, we kept that same lightness. Red fish, butterflies, golden warmth and small hand-drawn details move across the fabric, creating a print that feels spontaneous and full of life.

Life can be joyful sometimes.
