Subway

Sometimes, all it takes to create something really beautiful is a New York subway map and some markers.

Found along the road in New York City, this ordinary map caught our eye for the way something so familiar had been transformed. What normally helps you find your way through the city becomes a canvas for colour, lines and imagination.

There is something rather lovely about that. A map is usually all about getting from A to B, but with a few markers, it suddenly becomes something worth stopping for.

When translated into textiles, we kept that same playful simplicity. The lines of the subway map meet the marks of the pens, creating a graphic composition that shifts and comes alive with the movement of the fabric.

A little bit of New York, drawn over the map.
