A photograph of the sea, brought onto a wall.

Found in the streets, this beautiful wall painting was inspired by one of the images of famous nautical photographer Philip Plisson, known for his photographs of the sea and the world around it.

There is something interesting about seeing a nautical photograph transformed into a painting. An image originally made to capture the movement and atmosphere of the ocean is given a completely different setting, becoming part of the street instead.

The wall adds its own character to the image. What might once have been a photograph becomes something more tactile, with paint, surface and the marks of the city becoming part of the scene.

That is what caught our eye. A familiar way of looking at the sea, taken out of its original context and given a new place to be discovered.

When translated into textiles, we kept that connection to the original photograph while allowing the image to move with the fabric. The painted interpretation becomes a flowing composition, shifting and changing as the textile folds.
