A lady carrying a chalice on her head, clearly unbothered by gravity or anyone’s opinion.
Found in Jodhpur, this hand-painted mural caught our eye for its beautiful simplicity. A woman in profile, with a long black eye, fine nose, dark hair and a green garment, carries a large chalice on her head as though this were the most ordinary thing in the world. Pearl-like jewellery and small gold details add just enough decoration.
The beauty is really in the line. A curve for the cheek, a sweep for the eyelid, a few white dots for pearls, and suddenly the whole face is there. Graceful, composed and slightly mysterious, without a single unnecessary detail.
Then there is the wall itself. Small stains, cracks, fading paint and weathered marks interrupt the image just enough. The heat, dust and passing time of Jodhpur have quietly become part of the picture.
The colours remain restrained but rich: olive green, mustard gold, deep black, soft cream and touches of white. More palace wall than postcard. More memory than decoration.
When translated into textiles, the profile becomes beautifully graphic. The clean lines, jewellery details and worn surface come together in a print that feels elegant without becoming too polite.
