A little African dream, embossed on Belgian tin.

Found somewhere in Belgium, this old cookie tin caught our eye with its wonderfully unexpected scene. Two flamingos stand by a lake, wings lifted, their orange feathers flashing against a deep blue background. Long necks, sharp beaks and an impressive amount of theatrical confidence, all on the lid of a cookie tin.

The image has that wonderful vintage certainty of knowing exactly what it wants to be. Decorative birds, stylised reeds, a dramatic sky and tiny floral borders come together without a hint of hesitation. Time has added its own details, too. Rust spots, scratches, softened colours and faded metal interrupt the picture just enough to keep it from becoming too perfect.

The blue does most of the magic. It becomes sky, water, distance and decoration all at once. Against it, the warm orange of the flamingos feels surprisingly alive.

When translated into textiles, we kept that same contrast. The birds, reeds and deep blue background come together with the worn quality of the metal, creating a print that feels vintage, decorative and just a little bit far from home.
