Tokyo is always moving. But to where?

Painted on an iron shutter in Daizawa, this whimsical urban scene captures the city in pastel shades of blue, green, pink and yellow. Shops line the street, vehicles pass through and pedestrians add to the feeling of everyday movement.

And yet, there is something strangely calm about the whole scene. Perhaps it is the soft colours, perhaps it is the playful way the city has been drawn. You cannot quite tell whether this is the rush of early morning or the bustle of late afternoon.

When translated into textiles, we kept that same sense of movement. The shops, vehicles and pedestrians come together across the fabric, while the pastel colours soften the busy composition as it moves and folds.
