Steel, rust, graffiti and the River Scheldt doing what time does best.
Found on a pier along the Scheldt in Antwerp, this weathered steel surface caught our eye with its layers of colour and texture. Dark burgundy paint, pale blue graffiti, exposed rivets, peeling metal and rust marks all compete for space, creating a composition that feels surprisingly balanced.
The structure itself is heavy and industrial, but years of wind, rain, river air, paint and passing hands have left their mark. Rust spreads across the surface, graffiti bends around bolts and seams, and every chip reveals another layer underneath.
There is something very Antwerp about it. Raw, practical, slightly unruly, and somehow still perfectly composed.
When translated into textiles, ELA BOLTS kept that same tension between structure and erosion. Rivets, graphic lines, rusted browns, deep wine tones and flashes of pale blue come together in a design with weight and movement.
The steel stayed still. Everything else kept changing.
