A little garden, right under your feet.
Found at the entrance of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp, this mosaic floor by Marie Zolamian brings together plant motifs in green, brown, white and red. The shapes spread across the surface with a loose, almost hand drawn quality, creating an immediate burst of colour as you enter.
There is something rather nice about finding a botanical composition somewhere you would normally just walk across. Instead of sitting quietly on a wall or in a frame, the plants become part of the architecture itself.
The colours keep the composition lively without making it feel overly busy. Green and brown give the plants their earthy character, while white and red add just enough contrast to make the details stand out.
When translated into textiles, we kept that same sense of movement. The botanical forms spread naturally across the surface, creating a print that feels lively and graphic while retaining the charm of the original mosaic.
A welcoming little garden, Antwerp style.
